Pacific Northwest Rounding Retreat
December 10 – 13 • Whidbey Island, WA
Expand your baseline stability.
Whidbey Island in December is quiet in a magical way. You take the ferry or drive across stunning Deception Pass and the noise of an over-opinioned world fades away. What is left on your calendar is the quiet tending of your nervous system.
You already know what twenty minutes of Vedic Meditation can do. Rounding is what happens when you stop rationing it across four unhurried days. If you’ve ever been curious about diving deep—really deep—into your practice, here is that chance. In this intimate retreat, we will personally guide your meditation program and have cozy fireside wisdom talks in the evenings.
These dates were chosen on purpose. The stretch between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a strange in-between: busy without amounting to much, social without being nourishing, many bracing for the next family dinner and stunned that yet another year has gone by.
Four days away in the middle of it changes how you show up for the rest of the season and the coming new year. You will go home with a steadier baseline, a healthier nervous system, and a mind that experiences how much space it actually has.
WHAT IS ROUNDING
Rounding is an advanced practice, and it assumes you already have an established twice-daily practice of Vedic Meditation. One Round takes about an hour and includes: yoga asanas (gentle bending and stretching), pranayama (breathwork), meditation, and a specific rest period.
On retreat you do several Rounds a day. Consecutive rounding holds the body at profoundly low levels of metabolic rest for hours at a time, which is simply not available inside a normal week. This allows us to dissolves stress far faster than we otherwise could. Hence “industrial-strength meditation.”
With supervision, you can do up to seven Rounds in a day. Over four days, people describe a genuine reset—nervous system health rekindled, the equivalent of up to six months of twice-daily meditation. Thinking gets clearer, emotions get steadier, and creativity has a chance to come to the foreground.
ABOUT YOUR RETREAT LEADERS
Cindy has been teaching Vedic Meditation since 2019 and has helped Thom Knoles lead multiple large-scale retreats of more than eighty attendees. She knows when a meditator is ready to go deeper and when they simply need to rest—and it is why she wanted to create something more bespoke: intimate enough that no one gets lost in it. She has also taught Vedic Meditation with The Light Inside at maximum and medium security prisons. She has seen what this practice does in some of the hardest rooms there are, and she holds the conviction that all change starts from within—including the societal kind people debate day in and day out. Concerned about the state of the world? The most useful question may be what your own nervous system is contributing to it.
Jess leads by her relatability and her love of rounding. She became a teacher of Vedic Meditation in 2024 and continues to be quietly surprised by the power of this simple technique. As someone who worked in advertising, she knew all too well the effects of stress, unhealthy living, and unbridled ambition. Today most of her students come out of that same grind. They spend five minutes with her and want what she has. If you are arriving straight from a demanding job, she has been where you are and knows what four days can transform. She still remembers her own first Rounding retreat, so no one on her watch is left wondering whether they are doing it right.
Together, Cindy and Jess bring decades of practice and a joy to this tradition.

WHO CAN ATTEND
This retreat is open to graduates of an in-person Vedic Meditation course who have an established twice-daily practice. Rounding is an advanced practice and it builds on that foundation; no prior Rounding experience is needed, and we will teach you the sequence when you arrive.
If you do not yet practice Vedic Meditation, you are still welcome to register—just arrange to learn before December 10. Reach out and we will help you find a course.
This retreat also satisfies the High Rounding prerequisite for Thom Knoles’s Initiator Training.
ABOUT OUR RETREAT location
Serenely located one mile inland from the quaint seaside town of Langley, Washington, enveloped by forest and water, our retreat center sits on three-acres of secluded land, nestled between forest and pond. When you’re not rounding, you can take a stroll, read by one of the many fireplaces, or watch the bunnies, deer and sheep that often wander by the property.
With the exception of the cottage, all rooms are luxuriously appointed in the European manor style and have fireplaces and en suite bathrooms.
There is a yoga space for us to do our program together, a sitting room for our wisdom chats, and an oversized dining table where we will share meals prepared by Mike, another consummate Vedic Meditation Initiator and chef.

Whidbey Island is reachable two ways, and both are part of the reset.
From Seattle and Portland: drive to Mukilteo and take the ferry to Clinton. The crossing is about twenty minutes, sailings run roughly every half hour, and our retreat center is a twelve-minute drive from the Clinton terminal. Round trip ferry with a standard vehicle is $26, larger cars $32.
From Vancouver and points north: cross at the border, head south on I-5, then take Highway 20 west over the Deception Pass Bridge and drive down the island. It is a longer route and worth it. Plan on roughly three hours from Vancouver, more if you stop at the gorgeous bridge.
Carpooling is easy on both routes and we are happy to connect registrants who are coming from the same city.
Check-in is Thursday, December 10, between 3:00 and 4:00 pm, with our first group Round that evening. We finish Sunday, December 13, with a morning Round, breakfast, and a closing circle; checkout is at 11:00 am.

Mostly it feels good—lighter, clearer, more rested than you have been in months. Sometimes deep rest can bring up a stretch of fatigue, an old ache, or an unexpected wave of emotion as the body lets go of something it has been holding. This is normal, it passes, and it is exactly what you came for. We are with you the whole time and will adjust your program as needed.
-
Layers, comfortable clothes you can round in, slippers or warm socks, yoga mat, a meditation blanket or shawl, a notebook, and anything you like to have around for rest. Leave the laptop at home.
-
Yes, and Wifi, but we will encourage you to use both minimally.
-
During the retreat, the program is full and you will not be able to explore the rest of the island.
If you’ve never been to Whidbey and are curious to explore further, plan to come earlier than Thursday or stay on after the retreat on Sunday. We can recommend some lovely places to stay nearby.
